    LEANING TREES

Buffeted by prevailing southerly winds, the Leaning trees of Greenough are a sight not to be missed!

The horizontal trunks of the Eucalyptus camaldulensis' (Red River Gum) are scattered throughout the Shire of Greenough. This bizarre natural phenomenon is caused by the airborne salt content blown in with the winds off the Indian Ocean and have become something of an icon for the region.

You can view and photograph the unusually structured trees from the Brand Highway on the Greenough Flats. A purpose built parking area is provided for the travellers to take photographs.

Whilst in the area, make sure to continue on into Greenough to visit Australia’s best preserved nineteenth century town. Accommodation is available if you would like to stay and explore the area.

Greenough is just a four and a half hour drive north of Perth.
